Senate Advances Vets Jobs Corps Bill

The U.S. Senate a few minutes ago voted 95-1 to close debate on the Veterans Jobs bill. It needed 60 votes to avoid a filibuster.

Both Sens. Dan Inouye and Dan Akaka went into the Senate chamber to vote in favor. Both are veterans.

Inouye did not attend the Democrats’ caucus lunch beforehand, after which Majority Leader Harry Reid answered reporters’ questions about a deal to reduce the deficit.
